Controlled-substance ordering

CSOS

The Controlled Substance Ordering System (CSOS) lets your practice order Schedule II medications electronically instead of with a paper DEA Form 222.

Schedule II only, electronic

  • Replaces the paper Form 222 for Schedule II
  • Signed with a DEA-issued digital certificate
  • Electronic record of every Schedule II order

What is CSOS?

Electronic Schedule II ordering under DEA rules

CSOS is the DEA's Controlled Substance Ordering System. A DEA registrant with a personal CSOS certificate signs a Schedule II order digitally and submits it through an approved ordering platform. The electronic order takes the place of the paper DEA Form 222 for that purchase.

Pharmsource uses CSOS for Schedule II orders only. Paper Form 222 orders are still accepted, and Schedule III through V medications are ordered through the standard process without a Form 222.

Which program applies

  • CSOS Schedule II

Signed electronically with your DEA-issued certificate. No paper form to mail.

  • Paper DEA Form 222 Schedule II

Completed and signed on paper. Email or fax a copy, then send the original. Rapid C2 Service applies to these orders.

  • Standard ordering Schedule III, IV, V

No Form 222 required. Order through the portal or your account manager like any other product.

Enrollment

CSOS enrollment

Every individual person who wants to sign electronic orders for controlled substances must enroll with DEA to acquire his or her own personal CSOS Certificate. The following enrollment process will step you through the requirements for enrolling with DEA. At the end of this enrollment process you will be asked to complete an application package that is to be mailed to DEA.

How enrollment works

Three steps to your CSOS certificate

  1. 1

Enroll with DEA for your own certificate

CSOS certificates are issued to individuals, not practices. Every person who will sign electronic Schedule II orders enrolls with the DEA for a personal CSOS certificate.

  2. 2

    Mail the application package

The DEA enrollment process produces an application package. You complete and mail it to the DEA, which verifies your information and issues your certificate.

  3. 3

Connect the certificate to your account

Once your certificate is active, your account manager helps you link it to your Pharmsource ordering account so you can sign Schedule II orders electronically.
